Many players often have questions about Star Tech – what is the best strategy for upgrading Star Tech and what character should you upgrade first? Let’s take a look at these questions and more in the following guide.
Star Tech is broken down by the faction: Dark, Superman, Technology, Nature and God/Universe (combined). Each faction tree has 1158 possible points to be placed between multiple nodes in Attack, HP, and Faction Bonus.

The nodes are upgraded by using Interstellar Ore harvested in the Star Explore area. Each node starts at 0 and each level upgrade costs more ore – for Attack and HP, it costs 3,000 ore for level 1, 3,500 ore for level 2, 4,000 for level 3, and so on. Faction Bonus also starts at level 0 but all upgrades cost 10,000 ore and don’t increase.
Inside of each faction tree are upgrades for heroes within that faction (called Hero Tech) – not all heroes have a Hero Tech available. Before you spend ANY ore to start upgrading, you need to look ahead to the end game and what heroes are popular there and what heroes you will likely use. There is currently no way to reset Star Tech points so planning early in the game is very important to keep you from feeling regret in the late game!
The best strategy is to pick one S+ Hero Tech you want to unlock and work on that tech tree non-stop. Focus on only upgrading the Attack and HP nodes in the beginning and then upgrading Faction Bonus nodes when it makes sense from an efficiency point of view.
So at higher levels of investment, you’re only boosting a few nodes per day when your Star Explore returns with 36k ore. It is very important to think towards the end game and not what champ you are using now.. Don’t spend resources on a hero that will fall off by the end game (for example, Eddie , who is very popular in the early game but is not on many end game teams). What does their Hero Talent DO – is it a minimal impact to character success or a major boost to character utility/damage?Prioritize who you will be using in the end game FIRST. Regardless, you should pick the S+ hero you think you will use the most (Thinker
, Indira
, Storm Falcon
, etc) and then invest only in that faction tree until you have 420 to upgrade your main S+ hero. After you buy the first S+ hero in that faction, the next S+ hero upgrade requires 820 points spent, so it gets more and more expensive because those points cost more and more. Here is the chart that shows cumulative costs to upgrade heroes within the same faction:
S and S+ cumulative upgrade costs are tracked separately – so if you buy an S hero upgrade, your S+ hero upgrade costs for that faction don’t go up. You may be tempted to unlock an S hero ability on the way to your S+ hero tech unlock but think about chests (i.e. 8 for an S+ hero tech) — in 81 days of playing the most I’ve gotten for one faction is 10 chests.
After you get the first S+ hero, it’s a breaking point to decide whether or not you are going to do a Faction specific team (i.e., 3-4+ Technology heroes) or if another hero from another faction will be a better investment for your ore.. it’ll go quicker to go from 0-420 on a different faction vs 420-840 on the same faction due to rising costs per node upgrade and you’ll probably be close on chests or have enough for the new faction. If you stay with the same faction you’ll continue to make that faction stronger.
I hope this helps you progress and grow stronger in the game!
